Message from the Clinical Director

The Halton Trauma Centre prides itself on meeting the service needs of its community, but the global recession has presented our agency with some unique challenges in this mandate. Fortunately, the Halton Trauma Centre is supported by highly dedicated volunteers, donors, administrators, and community partners who have worked tirelessly to ensure client services are minimally impacted by any financial shortfall.

We at the Centre have played a key role, along with other partnering agencies, in organizing and promoting, this past May of 2010, an international conference through the Continuum of Services for Sexually Offending Youth. The Halton Trauma Centre continues to forge and promote strong community ties with agency partners in the promotion and advancement of research initiatives specific to the prevention of violence against children and youth. For example, our recently published document entitled "Responding to Adolescent Sexual Offending: Recommendations for a Regional Protocol" has sparked a critical community dialogue concerning the importance of coordinated, evidence-based services for youth who sexually harm as a violence prevention initiative.

Again, I strongly believe the Halton Trauma Centre has risen to multiple challenges and opportunities during the course of this past year, which is in large part the direct result of our strong and highly skilled team of clinicians and consultants, and the dedication of the many volunteers serving our centre.

Sincerly,

Siegi Schuler
Consulting Clinical Director
