Message from the Executive Director
As I approach my ninth year as Executive Director of HTC, I continue to be amazed at the level of compassion and support this agency receives. This past year was a time of great challenge, made more so by the struggling economy and its impact on everyone in our community. Financial and family pressures can often trigger child abuse and neglect. Unfortunately, the need for a service has never been greater.
In 2009/2010 HTC increased its assessment and treatment hours by 7.5%. Although a great accomplishment, the demand for of service greatly exceeded this increase. Meaning children and adolescents must wait up to 5 months for service.
I am very proud HTC's response to these challenges! Total agency revenue increased an amazing 15.5%! This was accomplished by significant gains in our out of region fee-for-service program and community fundraising.
HTC also participated in a Provincial risk audit through the Ministry of Children and Youth Services. A process that assesses an agency's performance in a number of areas including; Governance/Organizational, Service/Operational, Stakeholder/Public Perception, and Financial/Legal. I'm happy to report that HTC received a low risk rating in all of these areas. These results illustrate the level of quality assurance that HTC prides itself on.
We appreciate the respect and the support of our community. I am particularly grateful to our incredible team of community volunteers that dedicated over 1000 hours providing governance, leadership, and fundraising support.
In 2009/2010, we are also fortunate to have forged new funding relationships and strengthened existing corporate/United Way/Ministry and individual partners. Allowing us to increase the level of service we offer to children and youth while maintaining our commitment to community education and ongoing research.
Moving forward in fiscal 2010/2011, we are reaping the benefits of having built a diverse, durable and differentiated funding model. Our position and financial strength are important advantages.
Thank you for provided hope, treatment and care!
Darryl Hall
