Before you begin at the Halton Trauma Centre
What every client must know in order to be eligible for service.
Children under the age of 12 years must have a verification of interpersonal abuse by a child protection agency and/or the police. A police officer must be willing to state that they believe that the abuse happened, even if it was not possible to lay criminal charges.
If you are twelve years of age and older, a verification by a mandated agency is not been required, however you must have made a verbal or written disclosure.
Before starting service at the Halton Trauma Centre we ask that the offender not be living with his or her victim(s) nor be living with other children. This policy is in place because:
-
We want victims to live in an environment where they feel safe and secure from the threat of abuse.
-
We want offenders to live in an environment where they are less likely to offend again.
-
We want to provide a feeling of safety for everyone involved, which facilitates the treatment process.
You must live in the Halton region.
If you are in the care of the Children's Aid Society located within Halton, BUT live in a foster home outside of Halton, you will be eligible for services unless a more suitable resource is available in the region where you live.
You or your child must be between 3 to 18 years of age.
You must be emotionally stable before an assessment can be completed. Children or youth who are actively psychotic, suicidal, or exhibit uncontrolled self-mutilation will not be considered for service until these concerns have been addressed.
