Sexualized behaviour assessment and treatment
Assessment

Offered to children under the age of 12 who exhibit developmentally inappropriate sexual behaviours.

Identifies the seriousness of the sexualized behaviour, the context in which the behaviour occurred, factors that may result in the decrease of the behavior, and, it is hoped, identifies a possible cause of the behaviour.

The information that is gathered is used to establish a clinical formulation as well as treatment options.

Examples of the type of information that is collected during this assessment include:

Client Information: Name, D.O.B., age at assessment, school and grade.

Date of assessment sessions and date of report.

Referral source and reason for referral.

Sexual behaviours reported: what, by whom, when and where the behavior occurred.

Family members living with the child.
-
Emotional Functioning: coping skills, strengths, and weaknesses.

Sexual knowledge: information, exposure to explicit materials.

Eligibility criteria
Please note exclusionary criteria.

Child must live in the Halton Region.

There must be an identified concern about the child's sexual behavior; child possesses sexual knowledge or demonstrates sexual behaviors that are not typical for his or her age or has a preoccupation with sexual activities and cannot be redirected (eg. compulsively masturbates; employs language and/or jokes that are heavily sexualized; cannot play games that do not have a sexualized component to them; has coerced, manipulated, or physically or verbally threatened others into sexual involvement).

Must have committed a sexual offence for which he or she has been charged, or could have been charged under the Criminal Code of Canada.

All disclosures of sexualized or sexually offending behavior towards any identifiable individuals must have first been investigated by either the CAS or police.
Treatment focus

Preferably, the Clinical Member who completed the assessment will also provide the recommended treatment.

In the event that the child or his/her family members have additional needs other than those identified in the assessment, staff will assist in finding the necessary resources in the community.

In some cases, the client will be encouraged to participate in any required collateral services prior to receiving trauma treatment.
