Assessment

What is an assessment?

Upon arriving at the Halton Trauma Centre, you will receive a comprehensive assessment depending on the reasons for your referral. This typically involves various interviews with trained clinicians, the completion of questionnaires, and with your consent, collection of information from different agencies such as schools, Children's Aid Societies, Probation Services, health records, and other treatment centres you have attended. An assessment will help guide the best and most effective treatment approach.

Before beginning your assessment

You and your family will be asked to complete some consent forms. These forms will allow us to collaborate with other agencies, such as The Children's Aid Society, Probation Services and other treatment centres, with the goal of providing you with excellent service.

Before you sign these forms, we will discuss them with you to help you understand what each one means. It is important to remember that you have the right not to sign.

Your assessment may include

  • Interviews with you and/or your family.

  • Questionnaires about your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

  • A collection of information from different agencies, such as schools, Children's Aid Societies, Probation Services and other treatment centers you may have attended (This is only done with your consent).

What to expect next

Your assessment will take approximately four to eight hours to complete (depending on your needs), in order to allow us to fully consider the needs of you and your family.

Once the necessary considerations have been made we will share a series of recommendations intended to help you and your family. These recommendations will assist you and your family in deciding if treatment is needed, and if so, what type of treatment options may be necessary.

Finally, our treatment team will work with you and your family to produce the best possible treatment goals that follow best clinical practice.
